Miller Fisher Syndrome

Miller Fisher Syndrome (MFS) is a disease that reported by C.Miller Fisher at 1956. Miller Fisher Syndrome is a type of Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS). Miller Fisher is a rare and acute Polyneuritis Disease. Patient will have movement problem, eye muscle paralysis, and more than 40% of patient will feel hard to swallow.When the immune system attacked and destroyed myelin sheath MFS will occur. MFS is very rare than a GBS, almost 3000 people only one people will affected.

 

Symptoms of Miller Fisher Syndrome

The following is the common symptoms of Miller Fisher Syndrome:

  • Muscle weakness
  • Eye muscle paralysis (Ophthalmoplegia)
  • Sensitive to light
  • Blur vision
  • Absence of reflexes (Areflexia)
  • Ataxia
  • Respiratory function

Causes Of Miller Fisher Syndrome

The actual causes is still unknown. However, some of the patient feel sore throat , cold, flu before the Miller Fisher Syndrome.

 

Miller Fisher Syndrome can be treated after the treatment in a few weeks or more longer is 6 months. Once it become a complicated cases, it is life threatening. In some of record, that is 5% of Miller Fisher Syndrome patient died because of the cases become complicated.  Some of the complicated cases patient pharynx, neck, and arm muscle paralysis or maybe will become both leg paralysis. Before too late, go and run a test once the symptoms occurs.
