Breast Cancer is the top cancer that attacks many women in the world. This is because many women do not recognize what are the symptoms of breast cancer. Breast Cancer occur when there is a lump in one of your breast. Other than that, breast cancer may include changes on the size or shape of your breast, nipple inversion, spontaneous single-nipple discharge, or skin dimpling.
You can check by yourself if there is a lump in your breast. This technique may help you to recognize the early stage of the cancer. Below are the steps of the Breast Self-Examination (BSE):
1. Lie down and place a pillow under your shoulder.
2. Put your left hand under your head.
3. Using your right finger pads (2nd, 3rd, and 4th finger), draw a small circular motion and up-and-down pattern to check the entire left breast area.
4. Use light, medium, and firm pressure over each area of the breast.
5. Squeeze the nipple gently to make sure if there is any discharge.
6. Change to your right breast using the same steps with your left hand.
After you had doing the examination, if you find any of these problems, you must seek your doctor immediately:
1. A new lump, bump, or other changes in your breast.
2. A lump in your armpit or near your collarbone.
3. Pain in your breast that not related to your period.
4. Bloody or fluid discharge from your nipple.
5. Red, hot, or swollen breast.
By doing the BSE, you can know your body better and you will always in a healthy life.
